JTC1 SC25 WG3 addresses the international standard on which AS/NZS3080 performance standards for customer cabling (Telecommunications) and associated standards are based.
The first day dealt primarily with liaison reports from other standards groups including the IEEE 802.3 working group and setting out the activities for the week.
It appears that FDIS associated with the amendment of ISO/IEC 11801 series is likely to progress to publication. A project proposal has been submitted to Standards Australia under the Project Priority process to adopt this ISO/IEC 11801 series as AS/NZS standards.
ISO/IEC 11801-1 is likely to be picked up as AS/NZS 11801-1 as a modified text adoption while the associated documents are likely to be picked up as straight text adoption with the descriptor AS/NZS ISO/IEC 11801-x. This will see the beloved AS/NZS3080 series relegated to the annals of history.
The second day saw some lively discussions on one pair cabling and the work on resolution of comments associated with ISO/IEC14763-2 appears to have acknowledged the issues related to remote powering beyond 100 metre channels.
The output from this work is likely to be of great interest to the Communication Alliance working group currently revising the mandatory standards AS/CA S008 and AS/CA S009.
